This morning’s situation.

Saturday, 30th October, 2004 - 16:10

A perl script installed by one of our customer’s created a severe cpu overage situation this morning. While the server was not “down” in the technical sense, it did appear that way for many users due to the rather long delay in page loading, this also caused non-critical systems to temporarily shutdown. We appologize for the inconvenience this has caused our clients and we are re-evaluating our cpu usage limits to minimize situations such as this in the future. Rogue and misconfigured scripting is a common cause of system issues for many webservers and it is occasionally difficult to properly balance acceptable peak usage levels with negative impact to clients.

Friday, 22nd October, 2004 - 22:13

Paypal Issues

Tuesday, 12th October, 2004 - 00:06

If you are a Paypal user you’re likely aware that they are having severe problems. If your automated subscription payment fails due to this problem we’ll be extending the grace period for late payments. What this means is that we won’t start counting the 10 day grace period of past due until after Paypal resolves this problem. You’ll still get the normal invoices and past due notices, as we can’t rework our system to flex around the problem, but we’ll be manually flagging any accounts we know to be affected. This is because we understand that Paypal isn’t allowing the payment, thus being no fault of yours as a customer.

Delayed Backups

Wednesday, 6th October, 2004 - 10:17

Due to a system error, affecting the nightly backup procedure, the nightly backups were delayed and are thus still processing. There are only a few more accounts to go, but during the process page load times will be slightly increased due to overall system load increases.
