Outage Resolved

Wednesday, 23rd November, 2005 - 02:11

It appears the network outage has finally been resolved. We are able to access the server without issue from here (Pennsylvania) and the monitoring service (California) is also indicating full access.

Our estimated downtime is 55 minutes.

This was a dual (distribution) router failure within the data centre.

Network Status Update

Wednesday, 23rd November, 2005 - 01:07

It appears our entire subnet has been effected by a network outage. We are uncertain if this is related to the network maintenance scheduled to be performed tonight.

Current reports indicate multiple router failures within the data centre, with the possibility of network fiber damage. The data centre is working to restore network access. We have no time estimate for the repair.

2AM: We’re still waiting for resolution from the Data Centre. The entire network block 67.15.*.* is down.

Network Maintenance

Wednesday, 23rd November, 2005 - 00:37

Correction to previous post. There is currently maintenance being performed on network hardware within the data centre. This is the cause of the connection loss, mistaken as a server problem.

The maintenance window is until 5AM Eastern Time.

However; the period of downtime seems much longer than was suggested it should be and we are checking with the data centre regarding status.

Reboot System Error

Wednesday, 23rd November, 2005 - 00:30

We received notification of connectivity loss and attempted to reboot the server after we were unable to connect to diagnose the probem. Normally the reboot process is quite quick; however, it appears in this instance the reboot system failed to work as normal and as such may have rebooted again. The server should be online again soon.

Spammer Detected

Friday, 18th November, 2005 - 16:58

This afternoon a new client was detected to be abusing server resources in an attempt to send bulk email. This attempt created an unusually high server load. Upon making the determination that illegal activities were taking place we have cancelled the offending account for violating our Acceptable Use Policy. Server load is returning to normal.
