Remember to Renew Domain Registrations!

Tuesday, 24th February, 2009 - 21:26

Without fail at least a few times each year one of our customers will have their domain expire and then ask why we’ve turned their hosting account off. We haven’t turned the hosting off, of course, everything is is still there and would be working just fine, but the domain registration ran out. The registrar then redirects the domain to their ‘held hostage’ page instead of where you want it going.

Please remember that the domain registration fee is not included within the hosting fee charged monthly or quarterly, but is a separate yearly charge.

Be sure to keep your domain records updated so that you receive those important reminder messages, you may wish to also arrange for an automatic renewal with your registrar. Mark your calendar if that would help, but always remember that that domain registration needs to be paid to keep the website available.

Our uptime monitoring service detected a failure in the httpd process today at 3:11 PM; however their automatic service failed to notify us until 3:37 PM. The situation automatically resolved itself within the five minute monitoring period and httpd was detected as online at 3:16PM. We will monitor the process to determine if this was a random incident or a targeted attack.
